Hi, I'm Lucy 👋🏼
A gut health-obsessed nutritional therapy student at the College of Naturopathic Medicine, specialising in SIBO, IBS and Functional Dyspepsia.

High achiever, perfectionist, world traveller...
...and then it all went wrong.
I was diagnosed with IBS aged 14, given a prescription of Loperamide and sent on my way.
Life carried on, with me popping a pill every time my symptoms got bad, but giving no consideration to what I was eating or how I was living my life.
And then I went to university. It was an extremely competitive, high stress environment, and I was burning the candle at both ends. I spent 4 years terrified of failure, and using junk food and alcohol as a (terrible) coping strategy.
One morning I woke up with the most crippling upper abdominal pain. I was diagnosed with a UTI and given 4 weeks of strong antibiotics (ciprofloxacin) in total. The pain constantly returned as soon as I stopped the antibiotics, and I spent 2 years seeing urologists and gastroenterologists (as well as immunologists and infectious disease specialists) and having every test available with no answers. It became clear that it my symptoms were linked to my diet, and so I was able to manage symptoms more effectively, until...
...2018. My annus horribilis! A series of incredibly stressful life events lead to the development of TMJ disorder (severe jaw pain), which doctors treated with Naproxen (a NSAID). Then, all hell broke loose.
I was diagnosed with gastritis, and then prescribed a PPI to treat the gastritis. Following the PPI, I developed SIBO, Functional Dyspepsia, severe anxiety, histamine intolerance, Rosacea, chronic itching (diagnosed as MCAS), and other MCAS symptoms.
All of the conventional medicines seemed to make me so much worse (H2 blockers, antihistamines) and my symptoms continued to deteriorate. At my worst, I was able to eat 3 foods. It was now that I discovered the world of nutritional therapy.
Nutritional therapy didn't click for me right away. I knew that I needed to try a different approach but I found it very hard to let go of the 'miracle pill' mentality. I ended up working with a brilliant practitioner who really helped me understand my (many!) root causes.
I saw how flawed the holistic SIBO/gut health space was, with so much readily available, yet conflicting, information online. I realised how essential an individualised approach is to the treatment of gut symptoms, as well as a step-by-step method to working through root causes in the correct order.
So, The Gut Remedy was born!
And me? Starting to live my best life for the first time in 8 years and crazy excited to be able to help many people do the same.
